In the book of Ruth (2:4), Boaz exchanges blessings with the harvesters. Such customary language ends this Psalm, but here the language is of anti-harvest. Israel’s foes are as if plowing on the backs of the Israelites and they will be cursed with no harvest to grasp and no blessings to be exchanged.
Psalm 129 is dedicated to Amy Hirshberg Lederman.
