Life is dangerous. The previous Psalm described the pain caused by those who mock with contempt. The Psalm ended abruptly with no resolution. And now, strong words of assurance: “If not for Adonai who was for us”… we would have faced destruction- but we did not: “the snare is broken and we have escaped; our help is in the name of Adonai, Maker of heaven and earth.”
As the shift in the tone of the Psalms, so we too seesaw toward pain and promise; fear and trust. When expressing our shifting moods to God, we have a fulcrum, a center, that enables faith in the possibility of enduring equilibrium.
