Congregation B’nai Israel, in partnership with the Jewish Federation and Family Services of Orange County and other community organizations welcomes you to attend a community-wide musical celebration of the City of Jerusalem at the Congregation B’nai Israel, 2111 Bryan Avenue, Tustin, on Yom Yerushalayim, Sunday, June 5, 7 PM, featuring a concert by the Los Angeles Zimriyah Chorale conducted by Nick Strimple. Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.cbi18.org or through the synagogue office at 714-730-9693. Tickets purchased prior to June 2 are $18 for general seating and $10 for students. On the night of the concert, general seating tickets are $25 and $10 for students.
The Los Angeles Zimriyah Chorale, founded in 1997, has performed extensively in Southern California and abroad in Israel, Germany and the Czech Republic with major performances in Prague Castle and in Meistersinger Halle in Nuremberg with the Nuremberg Symphony.
Under Nick Strimple’s direction, LAZC recorded “Di Naye Hagode” by Max Helfman on NAXOS for the Milken Archive of American Jewish Music with the Young Musician’s Foundation Debut Orchestra and Theodore Bikel as narrator. In 2015, they performed “Di Naye Hagode” and other music composed about and sung during the Holocaust at the Merage Jewish Community Center, Irvine, as part of the series Reflections: From Darkness to Light.
Strimple, a professor of Choral Music and Sacred Music in the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, is recognized internationally, lecturing at Yale University, Oxford University, Krakow Jewish Culture Festival and other distinguished institutions and serving as a consultant to numerous museums, including the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust and Warsaw’s Museum of the History of Polish Jews. During 2001-2002, Dr. Strimple served on the California State Legislature Citizens Advisory Committee for Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Education. He has conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Nuremberg Symphony, the Ensemble Orchestral d’Aquitaine, the Slovak Radio Orchestra, the Prague Radio Choir, the New York Oratorio Society and the Berliner Domchor, among others. His recordings of twentieth century choral music are released on the Naxos, Music & Arts and 4-Tay labels. An active composer, Strimple has written concert and liturgical works as well as film and television scores and has served as arranger for Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart, Lou Rawls, Air Supply, and other leading artists. He has written two critically acclaimed books, Choral Music in the Twentieth Century (2002) and Choral Music in the Nineteenth Century (2008), and contributed chapters to four others, including the awarding-winning Jewish Resistance against the Nazis (2014).
