What is CBI Sisterhood and Why Should You Care?

What is CBI Sisterhood and Why Should You Care?

Since its inception 35 years ago, in 1982, Sisterhood has supported the CBI community.  Whether it was running the synagogue kitchen, catering Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, or providing a welcome religious home for congregants old and new, Sisterhood has been there for all of us.

Today we help maintain our religious school’s Madrichim Program – our post B’nai Mitzvot (madrichim) are hired to help the students and teachers in our religious school classrooms.  Students get more individualized teaching and the madrichim  have the opportunity to continue their relationship with Conservative Judaism.

Sisterhood makes possible the celebration of religious holidays in your home through the sale of lulavim/etrogim at Sukkot, Hamantaschen for Purim and, at our annual Chanukkah Boutique, a one-stop place for your holiday gifts and decorations.  Our lovely Gift Shop meets all your Judaica needs.

CBI Sisterhood is part of the international Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, which supports Conservative/Masorti Judaism to strengthen and grow its presence in Israel and worldwide.  Sisterhood raises funds to help maintain 5 Conservative theological seminaries throughout the world. Rabbi Spitz and all our rabbinic interns have benefited from this program and, in turn, so have we at CBI.

Sisterhood gives us an opportunity to stretch and grow as individuals. Our programs are designed to foster our creative, cultural, intellectual and spiritual sides. As members of our various teams and our Board, we have a chance to develop leadership skills. Our Sisterhood Shabbat is an annual highlight; we run the entire service, giving women a chance to participate and perhaps take on a new challenge. We sponsor a monthly book club and a weekly mah jongg game.

Sisterhood has a dynamic membership that spans 6 decades and includes doctors, lawyers, teachers, nurses, “techies,” designers – very interesting and exciting women who bring a lot to the table.

You’re a member of CBI – you care about Judaism and support the local Conservative Jewish community.  Help Sisterhood continue our work of supporting CBI by renewing your Sisterhood membership (click here for membership form) or joining us at an event for the first time. It’s the right thing to do!

Save the date!  Join us for wine and cheese the evening of Wednesday, July 26th. Come meet some fabulous women, learn more about Sisterhood, and make your voice heard – what programs would you like to see CBI Sisterhood undertake?

More info to follow about the wine and cheese gathering.
